Settled in 1771 as “Salt Lick” and chartered, then re-chartered as Kingsport in 1892 and 1917, the city was an early and important shipping port on the Holston River. Kingsport’s rich history includes Indian skirmishes and a Civil War Battle.  Kingsport was nicknamed “The Model City” because it was designed and planned by noted Massachusetts City Planner and Landscape Architect John Nolen. 

Kingsport offers more than history and natural beauty. It is the corporate headquarters for Eastman Chemical Company, Domtar Paper Company, BAE Systems (British Aerospace Electronic Systems) and other industries help to drive the local economy and provide employment. Options for fun and recreation in Kingsport are numerous and diverse. Known for excellent golfing and walking/biking trails, the city is the home of Warrior's Path State Park and Bay's Mountain Park and Planetarium, the nation's largest municipally owned parks. Sports fans can enjoy many AAU Championships and the Kingsport Mets, the Rookie League affiliate of the New York Mets. The entire family can enjoy music, food and fun at the nine-day summer Fun Fest.
